Floating City is one sculpture built two times.
The sculpture was first shown at an art gallery in Copenhagen in the spring of 2014 and then a couple of months later at an art’s festival. When that event came to an end, the sculpture was nowhere to be found. It is still unclear what actually happened; if it was stolen or simply thrown away. At that point Floating City was chosen by a jury to be exhibited at Liljevalchs Vårsalong in Stockholm and was therefore built once more. They are not visually identical in detail but it’s nevertheless piece of art – it was just recycled and reborn.
” I use almost exclusively used cardboard. I collect it from the recycling center in my apartment building, from stores and sometimes I find it on the street. I really appreciate the sustainable, earth friendly aspect of reusing a recyclable material. Cardboard also has a lot of expressions. It varies in thickness, hue, color, texture. A bunch of cardboard means so many possibilities to me, when it to others may just be rubbish.”
